Crews at Tokyo's Haneda Airport initiated the removal of the Japan Airlines Airbus A350 wreckage involved in a fatal collision with a Coast Guard aircraft.
While all 379 JAL occupants survived, five Coast Guard crew members lost their lives.
The cockpit voice recorder is yet to be retrieved.
The operation aims to clear the runway by January 7, allowing for inspection.
Haneda's affected runway is slated to reopen on January 8, with added radar monitoring personnel as a precautionary measure.
